All LG bodies to be dissolved by the end of this month

Since the term of office of the 332 local government institutions in the country come to an end by 31st of this month, the government has decided to dissolve the 23 local government institutions which have not been dissolve during this month.

Accordingly, 21 institutions will be dissolved on the 16th of this month. Two other institutions end their term of office on the 31st of this month 15 Municipal Councils, one Urban Council, and five Pradeshiya Sabhas will be dissolved on the 16th of this month.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas has made arrangements to dissolve the Colombo Municipal Council and the Hambantota Municipal Council on the 31st of this month.

At present 300 local government institutions which has ended their terms of office out of the 332 local government institutions have been dissolved.

The Ministry informed that 234 local government institutions in the month of May, 64 local government institutions in the month of August and 11 local government institutions were dissolved earlier.

The Ministry also informed that these institutions are now being administered by Special Commissioners.
