Army officer interdicted over Vavuniya stabbing

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – An Army personnel has been interdicted, after he had reportedly stabbed a soldier attached to the Bogaswewa camp in Vavuniya and seized his service weapon.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the island, Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Chandana Wickramasinghe said three investigations are underway with a preliminary Military inquiry, an investigation by the relevant Army regiment and also a general Police investigation.

The suspect and the stolen service weapon were taken into custody by the Police and Army Intelligence Units during an operation carried out in Kekirawa last evening.

The soldier was attacked while returning to his base camp after completing his duties at a nearby Army post.

The soldier has been admitted to the Anuradhapura Army Hospital and is not in critical condition.
