Bad weather: 5,000 housed in temporary camps

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Disaster Management Centre says nearly 5,000 persons are still languishing in temporary shelters after being affected the inclement weather experienced in the country during the past few weeks.

According to the latest situation report, the DMC said 1,335 families are sheltered in 49 relief camps at present. A total of 68,089 persons in 19 districts have been affected by inclement weather.

Three deaths have also been reported owing heavy rains and gusty winds.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers at few places in the Sabaragamuwa province and in Kalahari, Galle and Matara districts today.

Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.
