‘Address Karuna Amman’s controversial statement’

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Hela Bodu Saviya Society has demanded the government to reveal its stance on a statement made by Vinayagamoorthi Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman’ branding former LTTE leader Veluppilai Prabakaran a national hero.

Chairman of the Society Budugala Jinawansa Thera said the government should reveal as to how Karuna Amman was empowered to make such an endorsement of a terrorist leader.

The Thera explained that Amman never made such inflammatory comments in the past and yet is boldly doing so now under the present government. Therefore he urged the government to clarify the issue.

Jinawansa Thera meanwhile was also of the view that able and educated Buddhist monks entering Parliament will have a positive impact on the country as a whole.

The thera was commenting on the assertion made by a vast majority of voters that political parties should refrain from handing nominations to monks, to contest the general election.
