‘Kuwait repatriates not spreading COVID-19 in SL’

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Ethera Api organisation says Sri Lankans repatriated from Kuwait on the 19th of May were subject to medical examinations prior to arriving in the island.

Former Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti speaking to media said the Lankans were repatriated following complete assessments by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait as well.

Handunnetti condemned allegations by certain factions of the government that several returnees from Kuwait concealed their symptoms and are contributing to the spread of the virus in the country.

He said all staff members including the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Kuwait were present at the airport when the group of Lankans boarded the flight to leave for Sri Lanka.

The former MP added the group underwent a stringent health check before boarding.

He urged that false information circulating by the government claiming the group from Kuwait is spreading the coronavirus within the country upon returning, must be disregarded.
