750 NICs to be issued daily under one-day service

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Department for Registration of Persons has decided to issue 750 National Identity Cards daily, under the one-day service programme.

The Department restricted several services following the re-opening of its offices after the COVID-19 crisis.

It issued only 250 NICs daily at the head office in Battaramulla while only 50 NICs were issued at the Galle district office.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal in the isle, the Commissioner General of the Department Viyani Gunathilake said from today, 600 NICs will be issued daily at the Colombo head office while 150 NICs will be issued at the Galle office, under the one-day service programme.

The Commissioner General requests the public to strictly adhere to health and safety guidelines issued by authorities while visiting the offices of the Department due to concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus.
