Protesters Pelt stones at Jaffna Court

A tense situation errupted at the Jaffna Court premises short while ago when some protestors stoned the Court building and the police over an incident where an 18-year-old School girl was gang-raped and killed at Punguditivu in Jaffna.

The protesters stoned the court for not handing over the suspects to them and demanded the authorities to hand over the suspects.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the angry protestors. A policeman was reportedly injured in the attack, which took place while the case was being heard in Court.

Three suspects were arrested last Friday in connection with the rape and killing of the teenager, whose body with the hands and feet tied, was found with cut injuries on an abandoned block of land close by the school.
