Underworld figures associates arrested

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Two associates of underworld figures Kanjipani Imran and Makandure Madhush have been arrested in Kotahena.

A 30-year-old resident of Maithree Bodhiraja Mawatha, Colombo 12, was arrested with a stock of heroin in Malwatte, Kotahena at around 5pm yesterday.

Investigations revealed that he was an associate of underworld member Kanjipani Imran, who is currently in remand custody.

Police said it has uncovered that the Colombo Crimes Division had arrested the suspect previously and filed a case against him on charges of aiding and abetting the shooting and murder of an underworld figure on the 14th of February, last year.

He is due to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today.

Meanwhile, an individual who maintained close contact with underworld member Makandure Madhush while in Dubai was arrested in Maha Vidyalaya Mawatha, Kotahena around 6.40 last evening.

It has also been revealed that the suspect maintained contact with Mohamed Hussain Mohamed Rizkhan who was shot and killed adjacent to the Hulftsdorp church, in 2018.

The 43-year-old resident of Wellampitiya will be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court No. 5 today.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Kotahena Police.
