Kurunegala Mayor’s writ to be heard today
(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The writ petition filed by the Mayor of Kurunegala Thushara Sanjeewa against the enforcement of the warrant issued for his arrest over the case being heard pertaining to the demolition of the ‘Kings Court’ building will be considered before the Court of Appeal today.
The Acting Inspector General of Police, the Attorney General and several others have been cited as respondents in the petition.
The Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court on Monday re-issued arrest warrants for the Kurunegala Mayor, the Kurunegala Municipal Commissioner and three others over the case and ordered to ensure the five do not leave the country.
Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Sampath Hewawasam on the 7th of August issued orders to arrest the suspects and produce them before Court.
Warrants were accordingly issued a second time owing to the failure by authorities to enforce the orders.
The Magistrate issued the directives to the Acting IGP, the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Kurunegala and the Kurunegala Superintendent of Police.
The case will be taken up for hearing once again tomorrow.
