Landslide warnings for six districts

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued warnings for six districts. It says if the rains continue during the next 24 hours, there are possibilities of land slides and cut slope failures.

The locations which are at risk are the Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kalutara, Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts.
The NBRO stated that all mountainous areas, man made cut slopes and roads within the above mentioned districts are at risk and people in these areas should be vigilant.

Meanwhile,the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has cautioned the public regarding rising water levels in the Gin and Nilwala rivers in the Galle and Matara Districts, especially by-roads and lowlands due to the continuing inclement weather.

According to the DMC, in Welkanda, Pollonnaruwa 48 members from 13 families were affected due to heavy rain and high winds in Kantale and Trincomalee, 136 members from 34 families were affected by high winds, in Katpitiya and Puttalam, four members of one family were affected by gale force winds in the Galle district.
