Prithika, first transgender Sub Inspector for Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Chennai’s K Prithika Yashini will soon become India’s first transgender Sub Inspector of Police. The Madras High Court has declared the 25-year-old as a fit candidate, paving the way for her appointment as Sub Inspector by the Tamil Nadu Government. The court has also directed the recruitment board to make changes to draw transgenders to the state police force.
Prithika Yashini has been working very hard to ensure that she is fit enough to join Tamil Nadu police as the first transgender from the state. She had qualified all the tests till the end, before losing a 100 meters race by just about a second.
She gave a remarkable performance and ran 400 metres in nearly 1.50 minutes, against the upper limit of two and a half minutes.
Previously, her application was rejected since her education certificates carried her male name. She took the help of Madras High Court and officially got her name changed. After this, she got an opportunity to appear for the exams in May and finally made it to the selection process.
