Sri Lanka receives first batch of Sinopharm Vaccines

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – A stock of 600,000 Sinopharm COVID-vaccines arrived in Colombo today (31) via the SriLankan Airlines.

The vaccines arrived in a special flight at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa received the consignment of Vaccines from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong at the BIA.

However, the Sinopharm COVID-vaccines from China has not yet been cleared for use on Sri Lankans, as the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) have not approved the use of the Vaccine.

Accordingly, the Vaccines will initially be administered only on Chinese nationals based in Sri Lanka.
