When these cases of LTTE suspects were taken up today, the Attorney General has not recommended release and hence they were remanded in prison till 24th Now 2015

Release of 31 LTTE Suspects in Prison today?
Controversial release of LTTE suspects begins today. Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremasinghe reported to have ordered the Attorney General not to object bail applications filed on behalf of 31 LTTE suspects today. Hence, in the first instances 31 suspects will be released today, Commissioner of Prison stated. AG’s Dept. will take follow up action in respect of next batch of 32 suspects. Fourty eight (48) were sentenced prisoners. Out of this 48 sentenced prisoners, 10 of them have filed appeals. Cases were filed in respect of 116 suspects in Colombo Magistrate Court. To release other category of suspects their files have been closely examined.
In the meantime a delegation Comprising Secretary to the Prime Minister, Minister of Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Hindu Affairs, D.M.Swaminathan, EPDP Secretary General, Douglas Devananda, PLOTE member, Dharmalingam Sitharthan , DPC Praba Ganeshan visited fasting LTTE prisoners yesterday. Prisoners complained to them that those suspects, who are to be released today, were in prison for more than one year. But other suspects detained over 5 years, steps have not been taken. They appealed in unison that should be pardoned and released under a General Amnesty. TNA is under pressure over this issue.
