TGTE writes to Brazil President showing their Concerns

The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam has written to the President of Brazil Dilma Rouseff about the new Ambassador to Brazil from Sri Lanka Retired Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya, who the Tamils consider as a war criminial.

The TGTE’s letter quoted that they regret the appointment given to him by the GoSL.

The letter stated that Sri Lanka continues to appoint suspected war criminals as diplomats, but Australia and the United States have refused entry visas to Gen.Jagath Jayasuriya over war crimes allegations.

“Jagath Jayasuriya was the infamous army commander of Sri Lanka, responsible for mass atrocities during the last phase of the armed conflict in 2009, where war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are alleged to have taken place. The war has resulted in more than 70 000 civilians killed, 89 000 widows, 60 000 orphans, and 146 000 are still unaccounted for, the letter stated.

Serious violations of international law, widespread allegations of extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, continued militarization the North East of Sri Lanka, land grabbing, failure to reach political solution, failure to promote and protect the right of freedom and enact rule of law continues under the jackboot of the army, even after the war ended six years ago and with the new regime change.

The UN Human Rights Council has passed the 4th resolution on Sri Lanka, in September 2015 to investigate the international war crimes into these grave violations of international humanitarian law. Sri Lanka continues to appoint suspected war criminals as diplomats, but Australia and the United States have refused entry visas to Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya over war crimes allegations.

The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) is a political formation to win the freedom of the Tamil people on the basis of their fundamental political principles of nationhood, homeland and right to self-determination.

We would be grateful if you could give careful consideration, as the victims of war are looking towards responsible and friendly governments, in search of justice and accountability to be delivered. We hope your government will reconsider his appointment.
