The ratification of legislation concerning the banning of hate speech has been postponed.
Leader of the House Lakshman Kirella told that parliament today 17, the two bills presented last week to make amendments to the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Conduct would not be taken up on 8 January 2016.

The hate speech has been opposed by some 22 odd civil rights groups as well as numerous Opposition MPs opposing to the amendments asking the Government to withdraw the Bills.
