One of the latest developments is the formation of a new political alliance titled Tamil People Council with the patronage of Northern Provincial Chief Minster C.V. Vigneswaran. This has created a rift within the Tamil National Alliance, observers said
Nothern Provincial Chief Minister’s faction stated that the aim of the new alliance is to settle day to day problems and find solutions to resolve Tamil issues without delay.
E.P.R.L.F. leader Suresh Premachandran invited Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi leader Mawai Senadhirajah to join the new Alliance.
Mawai Senadhirajah in reply said, there is no need to join another alternative political force, as TNA has taken necessary action to settle problems of the Tamil population.
Vigneswaran faction says that Tamil Peoples Council is not an alternative political force but a council determined to defend the rights of Tamils. Further, with the help of people affected by the ethnic cleansing , proposal to resolve Tamil ethnic Problem will be prepared. They have every right to know what the solution is going to be. There should be openness and transparency in resolving ethnic problem in the country.
