Mahanayake of Malwatte Chapter of Siyam Nikaya, Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera said, that Theravada Bhikku Dialogue Act is a timely need and expressed his support for it.
In a letter addressed to Minister of Justice and Buddha Sasana ,Wijayadasa Rajapakshe, the Chief Prelate pointed out the importance of setting aside political and other petty considerations and getting the act incorporated into law.
Thibbotuwawe Sumangala Thera said, that he had already suggested the need for such a law to the previous government. But they had not given any consideration then due to political reasons, the Chief Prelate said.
He also pointed out that this will enable the Chief monks in the Nikayas to take action on individual monks ,who misuse their priesthood.
