When Parliament was convened yesterday at 1300 hrs, so called joint opposition started making noises. By about 14,30 hrs, disruption was in full swing. Entire 52 member group joint parliamentary opposition was in attendance yesterday,Their disruption went up to 15.05 hrs.Government Parliamentary Group members too were seen prepared for any eventuality. Governing Party Members of Parliament were in a defensive mood.,and they were deployed in various positions.When the Prime Minister started his speech, joint opposition members moved towards him to disturb his speech. But Governing Party members formed a defensive line around the Prime Minister and prevented approaching joint opposition members from reaching the Prime Minister. Despite slogans shouting joint opposition members, Prime Minister continued his speech. Further, Local Government Authorities amendment bill was passed in Parliament yesterday.
In the meantime, the Speaker gave his decision on recognition of joint opposition in Parliament. He announced that the request made by certain joint opposition members to recognize them as a separate entity in Parliament cannot be granted. On hearing this, joint opposition members started walking towards the well of the house to grab mace.But foreseeing this ,Parliamentary Seargent at Arms cordoned off the area and prevented it. Prime Minister appeared to have been prepared to face any situation and well organised a strategy and giving signals to Ministers and Members of Parliament. Even female Ministers came forward to defend Prime Minister, Chandrani Bandara was in fore front. After she rushed back to her seat to start her speech, Government Members of Parliament went and surrounded her forming a security circle, thus enabling her to continue her speech without disruption.
Joint opposition members, Dinesh,Bandula, Wimal and Vasudeva were seen spear heading disturbance move. However, all their attempts failed at last and Governing Party members were seen in a jubilant mood
