In 2015, Tiran Alles was questioned by Police over the allegation that he has given state money to Tiger guerrillas through the Reconstruction and Development Agency (RADA), of which he was the Chairman. The investigation is been handled by the Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) , which is coming under direct purview of the IGP. Followed by this, Alles’s passport was impounded during the Magisterial inquiry on the alleged fraud.
Through his lawyers, Alles filed a request at the Fort Magistrate Court late last month to have his passport released for six weeks. However, Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne refused the request, said, that it could not be entertained as he was a suspect of a serious financial fraud.
Alles filed the revision application requesting the High Court to overturn the decision by the Fort Magistrate not to release his passport.
The OIC of Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and the AG were issued notice by the Colombo High Court on yesterday over a revision application filed by former MP Tiran Alles.
