GMOA Preparing for an Island Wide Strike Next week

Addressing a press conference  yesterday, Dr. Navin de Soysa said an urgent Central Committee meeting has been convened for Thursday to decide on an island wide Trade Union action,  is to launch a continuous strike next week demanding a halt to political interference in the post-intern vacancy list and family bandysm  in the Health Ministry.
He said the Central Committee is most likely to agree on a one day token strike and then a continuous strike even including the disaster affected areas of the country.
He requested the intervention of President Maithripala Sirisena to solve prevailing matters. Responding to a question by a journalist, the GMOA spokesman said the President contacted the GMOA President over the phone on Monday.
“The President acknowledged the problem. He agreed to talk with the Health Services Director General. We hope that we will be given a discussion with the President in the near future. We never had this type of problems when he was the subject minister,” he said.
“It is regrettable that the current Minister of Health is not ready for negotiations. He should know that the problems cannot be solved by hunting after the GMOA. The Minister is pampering the stooges of the previous regime and Dr.Priyantha Attapattu is one among them. We know how he behaved at the last Presidential Elections,” he said.
