Central Bank Governor Post Remains Vacant

Government is under pressure to get rid of Arjuna Mahendren. The Auditor General report on treasury bond issue is to be submitted to the Finance board of the Central Bank . Reports say that Arjun Mahendran is making attempts to portray the report requested by COPE as a false one.
At a function in Colombo yesterday (30), Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said any wrongdoing by Mahendran was yet to be proven. Mahendran’s term ended yesterday, Neither  he has been given an extension nor a new governor appointed.
Convener of the National Movement for a Just Society Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya said they had been told by the president that a new governor would be appointed within the next 24 hours from yesterday afternoon.
Ajith Nivard Cabraal resigned soon after the new government took office on January 08 last year.  and CB governor’s position remained vacant for five days until Mahendran arrived from Singapore to take up the position.
