When the case was taken up for hearing yesterday, the two remanded suspects in the case, former Crimes OIC of the Narahenpita Police Sumith Champika Perera and former Senior DIG Anura Senanayake were produced by the Prisons Department officers.
The CID yesterday informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris said that they had questioned, in detail, several PSD officers, who functioned as security officer for former President Mahinda Rajapaksha.
Senior State Counsel Dilan Ratnayake, appearing for the Attorney General (AG), told Court that former PSD and Army officer Udaya Nandana Nagahawatta had been summoned to the CID, where he was grilled at length and his statement recorded.
The CID told Court that they had also questioned the former PSD officers, Sergeants Ranjith Premalal de Silva, M. Dayananda, Premakumara Chandrathilaka and Pradeep Ruwan Kumara, concerning calls received on his cell phone, by former OIC of the Narahenpita Police Station Damian Perera, relating to the initial inquiries on the murder.
Further the CID also informed Court that so far Visa approval has not been received by them to send their officers to a laboratory in Canada with the CDs of the CCTV camera footage, captured from the route where the victim had last driven his vehicle, in order to identify his assailants.
The Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the two suspects to be further remanded till 3 August. He also ordered all parties involved in the Thajudeen murder probe to speed up inquiries in the case before postponing the hearings to 3 August.
