Secretary General of the UPFA MP Mahinda Amaraweera said that the reason for this move was the Puttalam District MP Sanath Nishantha while participating in a television programme recently criticized the party and the party leadership.
Followed by this, the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to suspend and cancelled the party membership of United People’s Freedom Alliance MP Sanath Nishantha.
The central working committee of the SLFP met at the president’s official residence last evening under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
In the meantime , Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that at the meeting, it was decided that the Kurunegala district Councillors, who set fire to the letters calling for election papers be removed from the party and not be allowed to contest the forthcoming local government elections.
