State Coffer up with Rs100 Billion Tax Revenue

The government’s tax revenue for the first six months for this year has increased by Rs 100 billion, declared jubilant Co-Cabinet Spokesmen.
Ministers Gayantha Karunathilaka and Rajitha Senaratne, speaking at the Cabinet media briefing yesterday (17) stated that Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake had made this announcement.  Inland Revenue Department has increased its income by 38 per cent while the Department of Excise and the Sri Lanka Customs has increased their income by 12 and 40 per cent, respectively., they said.Therefore, the overall income tax has increased on an average of 20 per cent.
Minister Rajitha Senaratne commenting on this increase, claimed that this itself is a proof that the departments are active and running properly without any political interference.
