The Minister of Justice, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said, that on 21 July 2007 the Supreme Court had issued an order calling on the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) to initiate an investigation into the irregular sale of LMSL assets. The CID had carried out the investigation and on 8 December 2008 had referred their findings to the Attorney- General’s Department for legal advice, while adding that to date that advice had not been provided. The Minister made these remarks in response to a question from UPFA MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara during Oral Question time yesterday.
In this instance, that former Chief Justice Mohan Peiris had broken the law when he failed to investigate the irregular sale of assets of Lanka Marine Services Ltd (LMSL), during his tenure as the Attorney-General in 2008.
The Minister went on to say that petitioners could go before the Supreme Court against the former Attorney – General for negligence in office in not obeying a Supreme Court directive.
