Digitizing People’s Bank at a cost of Rs 700 Million – JVP Lodge a Complain with BC & FCID

Convener of the Anti-Corruption Voice/ JVP politburo member and former MP Wasantha Samarasinghe stated,  that the total cost of the entire digitalizing process of the People’s Bank had been estimated at Rs 1,500 million and of that amount Rs 700 million had been spent so far.
He charged that the expenditure had taken place without having taken into consideration the needs of the Bank itself or its clients.
The JVP member stated that a buyer, who was allegedly involved in a bond scam valued at Rs 200 million at Sri Lanka Telecom in 2012, before it was confiscated, had been involved in the People’s Bank scam as well.
He charged that the current government had allegedly handed over to the same buyer the contract for digitalizing the People’s Bank.
The JVP is planning to complain to the Bribery Commission and the FCID about  this an alleged move by the People’s Bank to digitize its premises at a cost of Rs 1,500 million.
