Sudden Power Supply Interruption & Minister ’s Assurance

A lightning storm last night   affected  132 power transmission lines and the Laxapana Hydro Complex. Hence, power failures were experienced in several parts of the country last evening, including the Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces. However,  power has now been restored in those areas.

In the meantime Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya  said that certain  group  is spreading  rumours that there will be power shortage in the year 2018.  In response Ministry Secretary B.M.S  Batagoda  said steps have been taken to meet  future demand for electricity.
