Medias Exposed Gota’s Order to Bug Lasantha’s Phone
Srilanka Medias have reported that one of the National Intelligence Bureau reports disclosed, former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakshe had ordered DIG Keerthi Gajanayake to tap telephone numbers of Lasantha Wickrematunge, VIPs, Ranil Wickramasinghe and elected members of Parliament on a selected basis.
He was provided with a list of persons stating that they are threat to the state and should be closely monitored. This order was given on 10th September 2008. Although they were listed as threat to the State on account of national Security, they were real threat to Mahinda Rajapakshe’s political base. Hence, under the pretext of National security concern telephones were tapped on instruction given by Mahinda Rajapakshe.
