The Education Ministry said that the distribution of school uniform vouchers to schools will commence from tomorrow (08).
Principals of schools have been provided with instructions to issue vouchers on15 November to school children to obtain material for uniforms for the year 2017.
The Ministry also stated that this time vouchers have been prepared similar to a cheque, and security methods have been included in them. Parents of students above Grade 6, won’t be required to visit the school to obtain the vouchers, as the students can sign for and accept the vouchers themselves.
The responsibility of distributing vouchers to primary school students has been assigned to teachers.
No sales outlet needs to be registered to sell material for school uniforms, with the Divisional Education officers this time.
Material can be obtained from any preferred textile sales outlet by presenting the vouchers and shop owners can hand over the vouchers to their banks and arrangements have been made to credit the money to their accounts.
For clergy students studying in Pirivenas, a voucher worth Rs. 1,750 to enable purchase of robes will be provided. The ministry said that lay students at these pirivenas will be issued with a voucher to enable them to buy material for shirts and trousers as well.
