Death Sentences on Three EPDP Members by Jaffna High Court

On 28th November 2001  a TULF team went to Kayts  to carry out  an election campaign.  They were intercepted at Naranthana by a armed gang,  which attacked them. At the end two persons died,  18 persons severely wounded and three vehicles damaged. A case was filed against 4 persons in to Kayts   Magistrate Court. At the end of the non summary  inquiry  this case was handed over to the Attorney General.  On 21st  June 2006 indictments were served by the  Attorney General.   Department through Jaffna High Court . This case was heard  for more than 10 ½  years. Jaffna High Court  Judge M. Ilanchseliyan took the case for inquiry on 11th November and continued it for 15 days. Judgement was delivered yesterday (7) in the judgement first three accused  Neppoliyan, Geevan and Mathan  were sentenced to death and other jail sentences. As first two suspects are not in Srilanka and  said to be  in  England  Judge issued an international warrant for the arrests of them.  He ordered to  obtain the assistance of Interpol and England through Foreign Ministry .
