Commission should be Appointed

Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Member of Parliament Sunil Handunnetti said if the Attorney General rejects the report on the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam, which has been sent to him, the incident could be suppressed. He suggested that a Criminal Justice Adjudication Commission, with total powers for a special investigation into the fraud, be established.
He  said that, therefore, during the first session of Parliament in 2017, the Treasury Bond Scam report should be taken up for debate and a discussion should be held regarding the action to be taken.
The parliamentarian said the loss due to the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam will last 30 years and even today those shares are being circulated in the market. He pointed out that the government has not yet removed Perpetual Treasuries from the Central Bank List of Brokers.
He added that, he will not allow this fraud to be suppressed in any way and all required steps to prevent that will be taken. He said the Criminal Justice Adjudication Commission, with complete powers, has to be established, even if it is for this fraud only. The judicial powers required to establish it should be provided by the Parliament and that the case should be taken up for hearing immediately.
Even though the report on the Central Bank Treasury Bond fraud has been sent to the Attorney General, by the Prime Minister, Handunnetti, who said that attachments consisting of 3,000 pages have not been provided to the AG, claimed that a fair decision cannot be expected from the Attorney General on this theft of public money.
He added that, if the government takes action outside the demands made over this fraud, the JVP is prepared to take future action together with the people.
