It has become a tradition on the first Saturday of Wimbledon that the Royal Box is full of sporting talent.
This year was no different as a host of figures from the world of sport were introduced to the crowd before play began on centre court.
The figures introduced were as follows:
Rugby: Bill Beaumont, Matt Dawson, Chris Robshaw, Brian O’Driscoll and Stuart Lancaster
Boxing: Nicola Adams
Athletics: Jo Pavey and David Weir
Cricket: Andrews Strauss, Geoffrey Boycott, Kumar Sangakkara and Jimmy Anderson
Golf: Justin Rose and Luke Donald
Football: Graeme Le Saux and Gary Lineker
Cycling: Jo Rowsell, Anthony Kappes and Craig MacLean
Swimming: Mark Foster
Squash: Nick Matthew
Sangakkara recently announced that he will retire from all forms of cricket post the India Test series. After playing a couple of Tests against Sri Lanka, he left to play NatwestT20Blast for his county Surrey. He retired from One-Day International (ODI) after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Sangakkara hit four tons in as many games in the mega event to set a new record but that did not force him to change his decision.
