Sasikala DA case conviction LIVE updates: Chinnamma visits Jayalalithaa memorial, will surrender in Bengaluru today

With her chief ministerial hopes dashed after the Supreme Court ruling in the disproportionate assets case, AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala is expected to surrender on Wednesday to serve the remainder of her four-year sentence in Bengaluru jail. On Tuesday morning, the Supreme Court upheld the trial court verdict convicting Sasikala in the 1996 disproportionate assets case. She had earlier served 21 days in prison along with former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa after their conviction by the trial court in September 2014.

1.42 pm: The court hall where AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala is to surrender today has been shifted to the central jail at Parapppana Agrahara due to security reasons.

1.20 pm: On complaint of Madurai MLA S Saravanan, kidnapping case filed against V K Sasikala and K Palanisamy in Kuvathur Police Station, reports news agency ANI.

1.03 pm:  Sasikala makes another pit stop, visits MGR Memorial House in Chennai.

12.18 pm: Sasikala loyalist and AIADMK presidium chairman Sengottaiyan says he is hopeful Edappadi Palaniswami will be invited by Governor Vidyasagar Rao to form government. All party members are united, he adds.

11:46 am: Sasikala heads leaves Poes Garden resident and heads towards Jayalalithaa’s memorial. The AIADMK leader will surrender today.

10:45am: Sasikala re-inducted her relatives Dinakaran and Venkatesh in AIADMK years after they were expelled by Jayalalithaa. T T V Dinakaran, a former Rajay Sabha member, has also been appointed as AIADMK Deputy General Secretary.10.40am: Supreme Court refuses to entertain a plea of V K Sasikala seeking time to surrender for serving jail term in disproportionate assets case. “We do not intend to pass any order on this. We are not going to change anything in the judgement,” the top court noted. Her advocate K T S Tulsi said Sasikala wanted some time to surrender to manage her affairs before going to jail.

08.50 am: On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had also ruled that all the convicts must pay Rs 10 crore each as fine and their assets such as gold and diamond jewellery, found to be disproportionate to their known sources of income, should be confiscated.
