The Sri Lanka Station Masters Union said, it will engage in a 48 hour token strike commencing at midnight today(7).
Chief Secretary of the Union Inidka Ruwan Pathiranage said until the Railways administration grants the union’s demands in writing, trade union action will enacted island wide.
Pathiranage said Train tickets will not be issued, seats cannot be booked and postal trains will not run during the strike.
He noted Trains in Jaffna, Badulla, Kandy, Batticaloa and Trincomalee will not run.
However the Chief Secretary said, that the union is engaging in the strike not due to an issue with passengers or the government.
Ruwan Pathiranage said a special discussion is also due to be held with the Railway Administration.
He said today a meeting will be held with the railway administration at 10.30am. He noted during the meeting if the Unions demands are agreed to and set down in writing, the strike will be called off.
