All posters, banners and cutouts targeting the August 17 general election will be removed beginning today, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara stated.
He said the 42 police divisions across the country have been directed by Police Headquarters to remove these cutouts and posters and that the police would deploy some 1,900 labourers for this purpose.
“As prescribed by Election Law, we will remove all the flags, cutouts, banners and posters connected to the general election,”
ASP Gunasekera said and added that the candidates could display their posters on their own vehicles or in the vicinity of election propaganda meetings but they should be removed soon after.
