Deputy Minister of Transport Asoka Abeysinghe said 1,500 new buses will be deployed for transportation services during the New Year.
He said the services have already been implemented and will conclude on the 25th of April. Around 750 buses have arrived at main bus stations in the Western Province from outstation areas.
He also said a special bus service will be in operation to return back to Colombo from outstation areas.
Deputy Minister Asoka Abeysinghe also said 20 additional trains have been included island-wide for transportation during the New year
Meanwhile, the Private Bus Owners Association Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said private buses will operate as usual during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
He further said the association is prepared to include additional buses if necessary.
