The disaster management center has issued a warning requesting all residents living in settlements found on low ground around the Kelani, Kalu and Gin rivers to be on alert.
The Department of irrigation stated that the Kos, Anuradhapura and Badegama areas will be affected by the Kelani, Kalu and Gin rivers respectively, due to the water levels rising in the light of the ongoing monsoon season.
Further it stated that work has begun on clearing the water off the cross roads in Habaraduwa.
A warning was issued to residents living in the uphill parts of the country such as Kandy and Kegalle, as the risk of mud slides and earth slips have arisen. If any signs of such activities show, the public have been urged to contact 117 in connection with the matter.
