Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna MP Bimal Ratnayake said, President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to stop the import of new vehicles for Ministers and MPs in light of the disaster cannot be implemented. As already over 100 letters of credit (LCs), to import new vehicles, have been issued and the government had already paid the necessary sums of money to the firms from which it has ordered the vehicles, HE’s directive stands defeated.
He further said, that if the government is really determined to halt the purchase of vehicles for Ministers and MPs, it has to first take the necessary measures to dispense with the whole exercise.
