Gnanasara Thero’s FR Petition Retracted

BBS  Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thero  was arrested by the Police Organized Crimes Division, yesterday (21), on charges of obstructing police officers from exercising their duties, threatening police officers and making hate speeches, and later released on bail.

The Fundamental Rights petition was filed by  Gnanasara Thero requesting the Police Organized Crimes Division to not arrest him, as they had been planning on doing do previously.

The petition submitted by BBS  Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thero presented to the Supreme Court has been retracted by Ven. Gnanasara Thero.

The presidential lawyer representing Ven. Gnanasara Thero, Tirantha Walaliyadda stated that the outcome expected from the petition had already been achieved, and that the petition was no longer required, and hence was retracted today (22).

The Jury, which included Priyasad Depp, Upali Abeyratne, and Vijith Malalgoda, assessed the reasons presented, and later gave their verdict on the matter.
