National Police Commission Calls Report on Attack of Uni. Students

During a protest against SAITM, a  large number of university students had forcibly entered the ministry of Health  premises and caused damages to public property, last week. Following the attack, several students including Convener of the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF), Lahiru Weerasekara, and Convener of the Inter University Bhikku Federation, Ven. Tempitiye Sugathananda Thero, were arrested and remanded in connection with the incident earlier.

Certain section of the educated public have condemned the attack made by the police on university students.  However, Police spokesman  defended  stating that police used a required force to remove university students from the Health Ministry building.

 In the meantime, the National Police Commission (NPC) Secretary, Ariyadasa Cooray said, that the NPC has decided to obtain a report from the police regarding the attack made on university students, while removing them from the building.   .
