Accept Jo’s Recommendation on New Constitution or Face Defeat ? JO

The Joint Opposition (JO) categorically stated that the government should agree to the recommendations submitted by them in drafting the new Constitution. If not they will do their level best to defeat it in Parliament. JO Leader MP Dinesh Gunawardena said the first and the second clauses of the Constitution should not be changed under any circumstance. Further, he insisted that there should also not be any change related to the unitary status of the country, national security and the concept of PCs as well. Gunawardena added that despite many discussions held to date by the Government with various political parties, the current regime still had not been able to reach a consensus ahead of drafting the new Constitution.
