The Commissioner General of the Department of Registration of Persons has taken steps to introduce a new Smart National Identity Card (NIC), which contains several innovative features within next two months, replacing the current NIC that has been in use since 1972.
As a first step , those who apply for NKIC first time will be issued with the Smart NICs. The second step will be issuing e-NIC to everyone who is above the age of 16.
Special features in this Smart e NIC are that it is prepared in accordance with the international standards such as regulations set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the person’s photograph, biodata, fingerprints and also the blood group included, he concluded.
