Cabinet Decision on PC Polls  To be Implemented or Postponed ?

The 20th Amendment to the Constitution seeks to give Parliament the powers of Provincial Councils when they are dissolved and to decide on the date of the dissolution of Provincial Councils. Cabinet approval was obtained for 20th Amendment to the Constitution and to conduct  elections of the all the Provincial Council  on the same day .

However, while the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) believes that all Provincial Council elections should be held on the same day, the party does not believe that elections should be postponed.

United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance (UPFA), General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera said, that a decision will be taken in today’s  cabinet meeting  in respect of holding of Provincial Council elections.
