Faizer Mustapha to Forward LG Elections Amendment Bill to Mahinda Deshapriya Today.

Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faizer Mustapha will forward the Local Authorities Elections Amendment Bill to the Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya today.

Hence, the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election (PAFFREL) says it hopes the Bill will be gazetted within a week.

Hettiarachchi added the final hurdle to conduct the Local Government polls is the issuance of the gazette of the Local Authorities Elections Amendment Bill. He stated the bill was passed in Parliament and yesterday the Speaker of House signed the document therefore they have been informed that the Bill will beforwarded to the Chairman of the Elections Commission today. He has not failed to commend the government for taking measures to hold the impending local government polls.
