Three Member Committee to Persuade Withdrawal of Petition Against Delimitation Gazette Notification

Party leaders met under the chairmanship of the speaker to consider accelerating the process of conducting local government election as early as possible. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, Party leaders and Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya have participated in this meeting. All party leaders are of the opinion that local government election should not be deferred or postponed under any circumstances.

Towards the end of the meeting a committee comprising Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, Minister Faizer Musthapha and Member of Parliament Sumanthiran was appointed to exploit the possibility of negotiating with the six (6) petitiones and persuade them to withdraw the petition.
