President Aims at Providing a Glass of Milk to Each Student in 2025
President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed officials to formulate a draft bill which includes a multi-program to convert Sri Lanka into a self sufficient country in the production of liquid milk by 2025.
Speaking during a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat, the President Maithreepala Sirisena said the programme to provide a glass of milk to each in all schools should be the target by 2025. Currently milk being provided only in 450 schools.
Accordingly, as the initial step 1.7 million students of primary schools will be provided with a glass of liquid milk.
It was also mentioned that the government’s initial policy is to reduce the amount of milk powder being imported from foreign countries.
