Ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that President Maithripala Sirisena is not responsible for certain decisions of the present government.
Taking part in the ‘Rata Saha Heta’ political talk show on Hiru TV, he pointed out that Sirisena’s comments on the Central Bank Governor was a good example for this.
Speaking on the possibility of working together with Sirisena in a future government, Rajapaksa said that he does not see any difficulty in doing so.
Provided Prime Minister (PM) Ranil Wickremesingha could work with President Sirisena, he will also be able to do so, Rajapaksa said. He pointed out that he and Sirisena have known each other for decades.
Rajapaksa also disclosed about his decision to call for a presidential election two years prior to the scheduled date. He said that several ministers also supported his decisions, but many advised against it.
