Akila Viraj Claims Trade Union Action Failure…..

Sick leave action initiated by the trade unions in the education sector proved to be a failure said, Minister of Education Akila Viraaj Kariyawasam. He said schools operated as usual. He added the Ministry was however informed of efforts by certain officials to sabotage educational activities at schools and stated that complaints lodged in this regard will be considered while necessary action will be taken.

The Minister said trade unions request is unfair as over the past 24 years those in the education sector suffered and faced with many injustices.

He noted to ensure justice to them; he has appointed a committee to look into their concerns. The Minister said they’re against their own demands being addressed, adding they are working according to a particular agenda.
