(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Gotabaya Rajapaksa says the Value Added Tax or VAT should be reduced to 8%.
Speaking during a rally in Weligama the former Defence Secretary said he will remove several unnecessary taxes and introduce a simple and clear tax policy if elected.
He noted entrepreneurs and investors can be directed towards investing with the reduction of taxes.
Rajapaksa stated as a result the economy will progress and job opportunities will arise.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated small and middle scale businessmen are the reason the country’s economy progresses.
He said therefore if businessmen are burdened with taxes they will not invest and businesses will cease.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa further noted he has a programme to build the country’s economy.
He claimed the present administration brought the development programmes of the former UPFA-led government to an end.
