Ranveer Singh starrer ’83’, which narrates the story of Indian cricket team’s victory at the 1983 world cup, is set to hit the screens on December 24. The advance booking for this sports drama has began on Sunday, December 19. According to Boxofficeindia.com, the movie has recorded a decent advance booking trend. While it is not as good as it was expected to be, but ’83’ will probably bank on word of mouth publicity and grow through the release.

Directed by Kabir Khan, ’83’ opened in national multiplex chains and recorded sales of around 15k, going by this figure, the movie could rate in 10 crore nett advance before release. This sports drama will bank on the extended Christmas holiday and witness a decent boost in sales. Speaking about the film, director Kabir Khan had exclusively told, “You know, 83 is a big responsibility for me. I knew if I don’t recreate this correctly, the country will not forgive me. Ditto for Ranveer: If he won’t portray Kapil correctly, the audience will not forgive him. And as you see from the trailer, he has done it brilliantly. He worked very hard.”

’83’ stars Ranveer Singh in the role of former Indian captain Kapil Dev, who led the winning squad. Deepika Padukone, who is also producing the movie, will be seen essaying the part Ranveer’s onscreen wife Romi Bhatia. Apart from Ranveer, the film ’83’ also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree.
